Realign, relearn and thrive on the blue marble in space

It is said that necessity is the mother of invention.  The COVID 19 pandemic that is sweeping the world is cause for great alarm and caution.  However, like all things this too shall pass and life will return to a state of calm and usual uncertainty.

The key however is leveraging the new normal to test boundaries of an organizations paradigm.  Companies that never supported or believed in remote work now might see the light of the benefits of such practices. Organizational inefficiencies of unplanned downtimes are now more focused on what needs to be done and what do I have left to do. Gone are the reasons of unplanned interruptions in your workday that one could point to for not getting things done.

In short, this is an opportunity to reflect, understand and evolve. Humans in general are resistant to change, they are creatures of habit so occasional seismic shifts cause us to jump the track and move forward to a better future.

I for one have been enthralled at the games that my children are inventing as they stay at home and keep busy. I am in awe at the time I am gaining with my family as we reconnect in a much more meaningful manner and the deeper conversations that we are having because we have the time now for that.

I am also looking forward to our first “coffee and cabash “ virtual meeting with our team to make sure we still have that interruption that make us human.

As leaders we have the fundamental task of pushing the envelope and making work better for all, every now and then some just require that external nudge!

Be kind, be generous and be safe.
